Steam to start allowing porn games?

"With that principle in mind, we've decided that the right approach is to allow everything onto the Steam Store, except for things that we decide are illegal, or straight up trolling."

Part of me feels like they'll say that "Porn is illegal because we're a store for minors". Though I would laugh if MG tried sticking Rance VI on Steam and it succeeded.

If we can hold them to this, then it's a grand victory this year.

SJWs when Valve threatened to remove HuniePop, etc.: "Valve is a private company, they can do whatever they want!"
SJWs when Valve says they won't curate their store: "FUCK YOU FOR BEING A PRIVATE COMPANY AND DOING WHATEVER YOU WANT."

That's good for a chuckle.

Heh. I do see some people who say that Steam should have a political agenda and censor stuff that opposes it. "NEUTRALITY FOR A BUSINESS IS IMMORAL". Nah, fuck you. If you hate Steam's neutrality, just boycott Steam like when people did when they hated Steam censoring stuff arbitrarily.

Honestly, this will lead to an average quality drop in content in the steam store, but it's not like the average quality was ever high.

I'm glad they reconsidered their stance on being moral gatekeepers.

Considering what an extreme 180 this is from the recent waifupocalypse I'm going to assume Valve didn't suddenly decide to hate tits and was instead pressured by some payment processor behind the scenes whining about said tits. This new policy could then be the direct result of them negotiating with that payment processor, who probably don't fear tits quite as much as they fear upsetting the behemoth of a client that is Valve.

They said in their post that it had nothing to do with payment processors. It was probably an internal debate.

"Internal debate" meaning "one bitch who doesn't like anime titties and management hadn't slapped her enough to beat the stupid out of her yet did something stupid."

Considering itch.io has porn games, it just seems like one random jackass employee.

He's the creator of the platform though.

Well, good enough reason to boycott itch io as any.

I've never, but people were floating it as an alternative to Steam back when the waifu holocaust was happening. Glad they outed themselves before I gave them any money.

I think I bought something there a few years back. I think.

Never bought anything, but it was hilarious to download the really shitty free games they let anyone upload. I'm talking about worse than steam greenlight tier. You have games on itch today that a 10 year old using flash in 2002 on newgrounds would scoff at. Them talking about Steam's quality control is ironic at best.

that would imply it's a service even worth boycotting

Yeah, itch.io can't even begin to compete with Steam, anyway, so he just comes off as a salty bitch that's seeking attention. I've never used it, and I still don't see any reason to.

I just want Rance to get on Steam to piss people off.

What's strange to me is a lot of Mangagamer folks seems to be against this, even though it would help them the most.

What the fuck. How can you work for a place that publishes stuff like Rance and not be a free speech absolutist? Do they realize that their games are the stuff normalfags would consider "offensive"?

Well, obviously, THEIR games would never be the ones removed. It would only be other games. The BAD games. Their work could never be removed from Steam for any reason whatsoever.

They've already had a game removed. Still they are retweeting Polygon/Kotaku shit about how Steam is suddenly going to become a home for racists.

Good thing I never buy anything from Mangagamer, either. I just pirate. Yarr harr.

I don't understand how anyone can be against this aside from from a quality standpoint, but it's Kotaku and Polygon so I guess i shouldn't be surprised. I hope steam at least improves their filtering system so i don't have to see trash like Grass Simulator on the front page.

Regardless of the opinions of some of their employees, MangaGamer is still worth supporting. I may sound like a shill, but I'd go as far as to say they're the shining example of how to do localisations.
